This takes real skill and greatly enhances the racing, but to do it you need to have borders on the outside of the corners for the car to slide around. ![]() Scalextric racing is much more fun when you take the magnets out of your cars and let them have more slide in the corners. However there are some rules I've imposed upon myself: So I've spent many hours trying to design a selection of tracks that fit within an 8'x4' space. A single sheet of wood is cheap and can be used to create a track that can be lifted up and placed against a wall or out of the way when not in use. This is because a regular sheet of MDF, Plywood or OSB usually comes in a 8'x4' size, to be accurate in Europe it's 2440mm x 1220mm, slightly bigger than 8'x4'. So, you will find many people who try to design their track to fit in an 8' x 4' space. ![]() That is something, in particular in the UK where I'm from, is something that comes at a premium. One of the biggest problems with Scalextric is literally how big it is! It's a 1:32 scale model which means that to have a decent length and interesting track you need a fair amount of space to put it in.
